Growing research has highlighted the negative consequences of corporal punishment, linking it to increased childhood aggression, behavioural problems and a higher risk of violence later in life. As a result, many countries have strengthened legal protections for children and promoted positive, non-violent approaches to parenting.

No matter what the child has done, physical or mental pain cannot be inflicted on it. Corporal punishment is associated with a range of mental health problems in children, youth and adults, including depression, unhappiness, anxiety, feelings of hopelessness, drug and alcohol use and general psychological maladjustment.

Research shows that hitting children does not teach responsibility, self-control or an understanding of right and wrong. Children learn by observing the behaviour of their parents, and those who use physical punishment may unintentionally teach their children that conflicts can be resolved through aggression. Studies suggest that children exposed to violence at home are more likely to display aggressive behaviour themselves and may experience difficulties in their relationships with others. Without adequate support, the long-term effects of violence can negatively influence a child’s emotional development, behaviour and well-being. Physical punishment can also damage a child’s self-confidence and weaken the parent-child relationship. Researchers have found that spanking may increase a child’s level of aggression, while other studies indicate that physical discipline can sometimes escalate into abuse.

Photo by Nadine Shaabana on Unsplash

Nowadays, there are still people who say: ” The beating stick came from heaven” or “I was also beaten by my parents all the time, so I knew the order”. Such people themselves suffer from the consequences of their parents’ abuse and have been taught this from a young age. The child will accept it as a model of behavior and will apply such a way of education to his children.

Physical punishment can really endanger a child because there are many people who have no measure in this violence against a child, which has happened countless times. Very often we can see articles in newspapers where such things happen.

So there are far better alternatives to physically punishing a child that rely on respectful communication and collaborative conflict resolution. Parents should give guidance to children about what to do differently. Overall, there is no evidence that children will learn better or behave better when a parent physically punishes them.

Such an approach to parenting does not contribute positively to a child’s development and may result in serious psychological and emotional consequences. Instead of using violence, parents should rely on communication, guidance and mutual respect. Where children are exposed to abuse or neglect, child protection services and relevant authorities may take measures to safeguard their well-being and rights.

Physical punishment can have lasting effects on children’s well-being, while positive parenting approaches help foster healthy development, confidence and mutual respect.

[23
51,84,441,214,269
post-1738","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-serbia","tag-children","tag-education","tag-phisical-punishment","tag-research","tag-violence","entry
["GET
