The European Day of Languages is a time to celebrate all the languages spoken around the world, promote language learning and have some multilingual fun!

Following the success of the Year of Languages, the Council of Europe declared a European Day of Languages to be celebrated on 26 of September each year. On the occasion of the day, a range of events are organised across Europe: activities for and with children, television and radio programmes, language classes and conferences.

How do I get involved?

You can take part either by getting involved in the organised activities or by getting together with other people and setting up your own events. You could set up a discussion group in your local area for people from different linguistical backgrounds, set up a language café or even just invite a neighbour who speaks a different language round for tea.

Find out what events are being held in your country or set up your own event. But remember to add it to the event’s calendar!

There is also a special area set up for teachers with ideas on how they can implement the European Day of Languages in their school and lessons.
