Humanity has become hostages of hate and xenophobia so with regret and sadness we can say that mass media are guardian dogs against hate and hate speech. Medias are generally projecting hate and unrealistically bad world. In my country in Montenegro sadly things are not very different.
Hate speech …
Unfortunately these are modern times and last ten years we are witnesses of main role of medias in shaping our
perception and reality.
Opinion is that media can be absolutely disastrous when it comes to situations where families lose their dear and close people and journalists publish that situation as something spectacular and interesting for public. Situations where media present somebody’s tragedy less important compared to the ‘big news’ that young man passed away and left behind untold stories about his private life.
It’s horrifying to see all those ‘soul eaters’, ‘privacy eaters’, all those media that don’t care about humanity, that earn their salaries on somebody’s grief and tragedy. It’s maybe time to start earning money by being honest, emphatic, professional, by having dignity, by not hurting others when they are in grief. Let’s start publishing wonderful things that wonderful people accomplished, let’s start having ‘human’ journalist that will present greatness instead of hatred!
As young and idealistic journalist who believed in integrity and profession we started with a few of my also young and full of enthusiasm colleges an internet portal. We tried to stay objective and objective hatless and not topic sided but after a two years of Don Kihotes battles in a hard way we learned that system cant be beaten…. at least in this modern times.
Those who use the sword will die by the sword … All sortes of idependet journals sit on two chairs and serve two or more lords … all in the name of money. Im afraid that this quote from Bible … those who use the sword.. will proof to be more than true in our line of work. Young journalists and etic journalists are becoming endangered species. We cant be ourselves and make changes in our line of work, while big companies and bosses, like Vijesti or Informer or… In Montenegro are suffocating us. Pulitzer said “The power to mould the future of republic lies in the hands of journalists of future generation.”
Now more than ever I am afraid great Josef Pulitzer was wrong. They want let us!
